This project is great as a recycled craft because you can use scrap paper.

The cards would look great if you used newspaper too – you can leave it as is or have your kids colour it green (watercolours work great for projects like this).

How to make Christmas cards from paper trees

What you need:

  • card
  • green scrap paper
  • brown paper
  • Contrast paper for background (optional)
  • paper for star
  • glue
  • drag

Step by step instructions

If you don’t have a blank card, creating one is also very easy.

Take a piece of paper (letter size or A4) and fold it in half.

Cut along the fold to get two rectangles.

Each of those rectangles, when folded in half, will form a card.

If you want to create a contrasting base for the card, cut a rectangle that is slightly smaller than the base of the card – this way the edges of the card will be exposed.

Cut a small brown rectangle to make the base of the tree.

Glue it to the bottom of the colored paper rectangle.

Start cutting or tearing strips of green paper.

You can use one color or multiple colors for this project.

Apply glue along the paper strip.

And stick it to the base,

Continue with other strips of paper.

Just keep adding them, trying to form a triangle.

Until you are satisfied with the look of the tree.

Add decorations, you can keep it simple like we did and just make a star…

..or you can also add decorations…

Last but not least, glue your artwork onto the card base.

Done.

Your paper tree Christmas card is just missing a note.
