How to make handprint art for kids – Popular art lesson

What you need:

  • pencil
  • drag
  • glue
  • colored paper (various colors) – large origami paper can work really well for this project
  • black marker
  • painted white
  • sponge

Step-by-step instructions

Collect all necessary materials. Start with yellow paper (or any other color your child likes).

We want to make our pop art stand out!

Step 1

Place your palm on the paper and use a pencil to trace.

Step 2

Round the bottom of the handprint so you have just the palm outline.

Step 3

Draw the pencil line with a dark black marker.

Step 4

Draw folds on the fingers with a black marker.

Step 5

Have children look at their palms and try to draw wrinkles that match their palms.

Step 6

Take a square of paper (aim for contrast and close contrasting colors).

Step 7

Create white dots. Use a round sponge to create dots, or use fingerprints for a more personal project.

Step 8

Let the paint dry.

Step 9

Apply glue to the back of the fingerprint and stick it onto the painted paper.

Step 10

Prepare the background (white cardboard is perfect).

Step 11

Glue the blue square with the handprint to the upper left corner of the larger piece of paper.

Step 12

Repeat the steps to create additional fingerprints on different colored paper.

Step 13

Paste pop art handprints onto the background.
