Pop Art is a fun and colorful style of art that began in the 1950s and 1960s. It used bright colors and bold designs to make everyday objects look interesting and appealing.
Artists in the pop art movement were inspired by things they saw in popular culture, such as comic books, advertising, and celebrities. They wanted to show that art can be found in things people see every day, not just in fancy museums. And now we’re going to document this with handprint art.
One of the most famous Pop artists is Andy Warhol, who painted soup cans and celebrities like Marilyn Monroe.
Another famous Pop artist is Roy Lichtenstein, who created large paintings that look like comic book panels. Keith Haring was also an important Pop artist, known for his bright, colorful paintings and murals, often featuring dancing figures and bold lines. Pop art is about having fun with color and shape.
How to make handprint art for kids – Popular art lesson
What you need:
- pencil
- drag
- glue
- colored paper (various colors) – large origami paper can work really well for this project
- black marker
- painted white
- sponge
Step-by-step instructions
Collect all necessary materials. Start with yellow paper (or any other color your child likes).
We want to make our pop art stand out!
Place your palm on the paper and use a pencil to trace.
Round the bottom of the handprint so you have just the palm outline.
Draw the pencil line with a dark black marker.
Draw folds on the fingers with a black marker.
Have children look at their palms and try to draw wrinkles that match their palms.
Take a square of paper (aim for contrast and close contrasting colors).
Create white dots. Use a round sponge to create dots, or use fingerprints for a more personal project.
Let the paint dry.
Apply glue to the back of the fingerprint and stick it onto the painted paper.
Prepare the background (white cardboard is perfect).
Glue the blue square with the handprint to the upper left corner of the larger piece of paper.
Repeat the steps to create additional fingerprints on different colored paper.
Paste pop art handprints onto the background.
