Sponge Painted Christmas Sock Craft

Sponge painting is a great activity for kids (the dirtier the merrier) so here’s a cute sponge Christmas stocking craft idea you can make during the holidays.

This is a great Christmas craft for preschoolers and kindergarteners because it allows them to be creative while also practicing their fine motor skills as they thread the string.

Foam Christmas Stocking Craft

What you need

  • two sheets of red cardboard
  • sponges come in different shapes (I cut kitchen sponges into different shapes – squares, rectangles, triangles)
  • color
  • wool
  • single hole punching machine
  • drag

Draw a Christmas stocking shape on red paper and cut it out – creating two identical stockings. Place one on top of the other and start punching holes along the edges (punch the top hole as this will be the hole to fill the stocking with stuffing).

Decorate the stockings by stamping different shapes, using different colors. You can even decorate with glitter, sequins, scrap paper – let your child make it as unique as they want.

Once you have decorated the socks, place them on top of each other and tie the yarn to hold them together.

Done! This sponge painted Christmas stocking is ready to display and waiting to be filled with all sorts of goodies!
