Since we love ladybugs so much, we’re excited to share this swirly ladybug paper craft tutorial with you. It’s got a little twist.

While you can make this bug craft without a template, we have created templates (for both single crafts and classroom crafts) that you can get from our members area.

How to make a ladybug craft with swirl paper

What you need:

Optional: templates from our member library

  • green paper
  • red paper
  • black cardboard
  • glue or hot glue
  • Self adhesive googly eyes
  • drag
  • black pencil
  • pencil

Let’s create!

Step by step instructions

Draw a leaf on a green sheet of paper.

Step 1

Use scissors to cut the leaves.

Step 2

Cut a red stripe (horizontal A4 paper – cut vertically).

Step 3

Draw 8 freehand circles on black cardboard.

Step 4

Use scissors to cut out black circles.

Step 5

Cut 6 thin rectangles from black cardboard.

Step 6

Draw the ladybug head on the black cardboard and the opening underneath.

Step 7

Use scissors to cut off the top.

Step 8

Draw two antennae on black cardboard with circles on top.

Step 9

Use scissors to cut off the beard.

Step 10

On the red paper, draw a small smiling mouth.

Step 11

Use scissors to cut out the small mouth.

Step 12

Apply some glue to the leaf and glue one end of the red stripe.

Step 13

Now make a circle with red stripes, then seal it with glue.

Step 14

Make another circle with red stripes and seal it with glue.

Step 15

Make a third circle with red stripes, seal with glue and cut off the excess paper.

Step 16

Start adding black dots. Add three dots to the first red circle.

Step 17

Add two black dots to the middle red circle and three black dots to the third red circle.

Step 18

Attach the legs (thin rectangle).

Place three on each side of the ladybug’s body.

Step 19

Fold the marked area (between the head and the seam) and glue the head back.

Step 20

Use glue to add two more antennae to the head.

Step 21

Smile

Step 22

Glue self-adhesive googly eyes to the head.

Step 23

Finished!
