If you live in an area where walnut trees are found, you can simply take advantage of this natural craft material and make a boat out of walnut trees.
They are easy to make and can float on water just like a regular boat… Just smaller.

As the temperatures rise in the summer, it makes perfect sense to make a boat craft, let the kids play with it in the water (and cool off) afterwards. It might even be the best summer craft idea you can do with kids, as it is fun to make and will keep them busy for quite some time.
Now gather these tools and we will show you how to make this lovely boat friend.
How to make a walnut boat
What you need:
- walnut
- velvet stick
- hot glue (with adult supervision)
- glue
- drag
- colored paper
- Self adhesive googly eyes
- black gel pen
Let’s create!
Step by step instructions
Take a walnut and ask an adult to split the shell into two equal parts.
The easiest way to do this is to place the craft knife/scissors tip into the bottom hole as shown in the picture and twist the left half and right half until it cracks.
Great!
Pour hot glue into each half.
Like this.
Take a strip of velvet and divide it into 5cm pieces of velvet.
Then take a 5cm long piece and place it vertically inside the shell.
Let the glue dry.
Fold some colored paper in half and…
… use scissors to cut into a triangle.
Make them right triangles.
Apply a little glue inside the triangle…
…and glue them to the ends of cotton swabs.
Press in with your finger and wait for the glue to dry.
Peel off the protective film from the self-adhesive googly eyes and stick them onto the triangle. Using a black gel pen …
…draw a small mouth.
You’re done!
You can do as much as you want.
This walnut boat is so cute!
Wally is ready to set sail.
Place this walnut in a tub of water, start blowing air through his mouth and watch this guy row a boat.
Hope you had fun doing today’s project.
