Have you ever flown in a hot air balloon? Sounds like a great adventure, right? While you wait for your real adventure, why not try building a miniature version of a hot air balloon.
Today’s project will be huge and you will have a lot of fun doing it.
Who doesn’t love hot air balloons?
We present to you a great idea on how to make your own hot air balloon.
And name it.

How to make 3D balloon crafts
What you need:
- 26 sheets of colored paper (2 red sheets, 1 pink sheet, 2 red sheets, 1 pink sheet, …)
- glue
- hot glue
- comb
- wool
- drag
- toilet paper roll
- straw
- red foam board
- pencil
- 1 velvet bar
- 1 large pom-pom and 1 soft pom-pom
- 2 spiral pens
- 2 googly eyes
- red acrylic
- printable template
And let’s begin!
Step by step instructions
Make a balloon
Print the heart shape on colored paper and cut out the heart shape.
Heart shaped print with stars and hexagons.
Place a heart into the mold and start by applying glue only along the lines marked with the star at the end.
Then continue adding another heart on top of the first heart…

…and apply some glue but this time only on the lines with the hexagons at the end.
Repeat this step until there are no more hearts left (be careful and remember – first, you only apply glue to the star lines, then only to the hex lines).
Use a pencil to draw a line down the middle of the heart, then cut the heart into two halves.
Apply a little glue to one half of the heart and stick them together.
You should have a teardrop shape when you complete this step.
Start by opening the heart shaped balloon, creating a 3D heart shape and gluing the ends together.
Create cart
Now cut the toilet paper roll in half.
Draw three circles (using half of the paper roll) and tape them together to form a sturdy base for our balloon basket.
Apply a little hot glue around the circle and stick it to the basket. Let dry.
Pour some red acrylic paint into the brush and paint the basket with that color. Let the paint dry.
Make our passengers
Take a pencil and form a spiral around it with a cotton swab.
Add a little glue to one side of the pom-pom and attach a large pom-pom to it. Add some bulging eyes.
Then add the pen twists as if they were horns.
Apply a little glue to the pom-pom and place it on top of the large pom-pom.
That is the creature’s hair.
Draw three hearts on red foam, cut them out and place two on top of the horn…
…and a nose job.
Apply a little glue to the bottom of the cotton swab and glue the animal to the inside of the basket.
Apply a little glue all over the basket and wrap the straw around it.
Cut 4 equal pieces of yarn, tie a knot at the end of each strand of yarn…
…and glue their ends to the inside of the basket first.
Press firmly and let dry.
Then make a large knot (using all the yarn)…
…and glue it inside the 3D heart shape.
Make a crochet hook, tie two knots at both ends…
…and glue it on top of the 3D heart shape.
Done!
Ready to fly?
Hang this beautiful balloon on your wall.
