How to make an abstract colorful DIY Christmas card

  • paper for cards or blank cards
  • white cardboard
  • color supplies
  • black marker
  • ruler (or just use paper to draw straight lines)
  • round lid for round shape
  • glue
  • drag

You can also grab the free printable template at the end of this guide.

Step-by-step instructions

If you don’t have a blank card, creating your own basic card is super easy. Take a sheet of A4/letter size construction paper in your favorite color and fold it in half.

Cut along the fold.

Take one of the halves and fold it in half. This will create a card base (make another base from the other half if you like).

Place the folded card on top of the white cardstock and use it as a stencil to cut out a white rectangle.

Cut the white rectangle slightly so it is smaller than the card. This will give your card a beautifully colored edge.

Draw a rectangle inside the white rectangle using a black marker.

If you have a darker black marker, use it to draw the tree shape – keep it simple, draw a triangle and a small rectangle below it.

Now draw horizontal lines across the rectangle – randomly.

You can also add some circles. We used the glue cap as a circle stencil.

Apply glue to the back of the white rectangle and stick it onto your card.

Next is coloring. We color the shapes inside the tree with different shades of green and blue. We colored the outside with different shades of purple.

There are no rules here.

Last but not least, add a special note inside the card.

That’s it, your Geometric Abstract Colorful Homemade Christmas Card is complete.
