We are cat lovers so we are super (super, super) excited to introduce this cute cat paper toy!
There are two different paper toy templates to download and assemble and both are super fun to make.

Your kids will love the simple mechanism that makes this cat pop out of the box. We’re pretty sure that once they make their first box (using the template you can get at the end of this tutorial), they’ll start making their own pop-out boxes and even build on this mechanism.
We created two adorable designs, both cat themed (which seemed perfect).
The first design featured a cat in a cardboard box (because cats are obsessed with those things, right?). We created a color version and a pre-colored version.
The second design also has a mouse popping up at the bottom. And on the other side, a cat is ready to jump on the mouse. Super cute and fun.
Ready to make one or two? Let’s get started!
How to make a pop up cat paper box toy with our template
What you need
- one of our printable templates (you can get them at the end of this tutorial).
- printer
- paper (we recommend thicker printing paper)
- Coloring media if you will be printing the instructions in black and white
- drag
- Scoring tool (we only use a manual stick)
- glue
We made it on 120gsm paper.
Follow the step-by-step instructions below
Print out our pop-up cat paper toy box template (you can get the template at the end of this tutorial).
If you print our black and white template, color the cat (and the mouse).Cut out the box template (large long rectangle).
Turn over and color. We’re going to show you how to make a cat and mouse pop up box and we decided to make a grass backdrop.
This scene is colored with different shades of green using a brush to create the image of grass.
You can create any scene you want.
Cut out all other parts of this craft project. It’s time to hurry, hurry, hurry!Let’s start with the box. Fold along the dotted lines – score each fold to make the box really crispy (we used a craft stick).
Apply glue to the last “cap” where it says glue. And glue the two ends together. You will see a nice little rectangle with “extra” folds on the long end.Now fold the small rectangles in. You should have an M shape.Apply glue to the folded “M-shaped rectangle” where glue is written, apply on one side only.Stick it inside the box in the designated location (where it says glue). The middle part of the M shape, the top, should be facing up, almost looking out of the box.
Apply glue to the other side of the “M-shaped rectangle” where glue is written.Stick it in the designated position for gluing.Take the cat. Apply glue to the cat – on the back and only on the lower part of the body, and glue it inside the box (on the M-shaped rectangle). When you click on the box, the cat will appear. Now flip the box over and repeat all the steps for the mouse.Done? Now when you click on the box, a cat will appear at the top and a mouse will appear below.Isn’t that great?
The other design features a cat jumping out of a box (there are even some fun decorations for the box on the design).
