We love DIY classroom decorations or home desk decorations that kids can make themselves and this is definitely something we will be sharing more about as the new school year gets underway.
What we love most about this DIY pencil case is that in addition to being shaped like a Dachshund, you can make it as long as you want.
This box is perfect for classroom use as it can hold everything from crayons to paint brushes.
There really is no “age limit” for this craft as everyone loves a DIY Daschund pencil case on their desk, but for the classroom, we think this would look best in a preschool or kindergarten classroom.

Print our template (you can find it at the end of this tutorial).
Depending on the length of your homemade pencil holder, you may need to glue it down to a cardboard base for added stability.
Paint your rolls brown. You can also wrap them in brown paper.
Our printable template can be used as a stencil to draw on brown paper or you can color it.
We will color them.
Glue the rolls together in a straight line. We used white school glue and it worked but a glue gun would have done it much quicker. If you are also using white school glue, we recommend using clothespins (or similar) to hold the rolls of paper together while the glue dries. You need to let the glue dry completely (that’s why we like to use a glue gun). We let the glue dry overnight to really harden it.
Cut out the pattern pieces.Apply glue to the dog’s head as shown below. Press the other half of the dog’s head in (glue them together).
Apply glue to the “flaps” at the top.Stick the head into a paper roll.Let the glue dry. Glue the dog’s ear.Do the same with the tail.Tape the head of the paper roll and the tail of the paper roll to the body of the toilet paper roll.
Glue to the leg.Woohoo, you just finished your DIY Daschund Dog Paper Roll Pencil Case. Now just fill it with crayons, markers, and other cute things.
