How to Draw an Octopus – Step by Step Drawing Tutorial

Octopus Drawing Tutorial

This is one of the easiest ways to draw an octopus! Even the 8 tentacles, which can sometimes be a bit difficult to draw, will be easy to handle.

What you need:

  • Our printable guided drawing template (you can get it at the end of this drawing tutorial)
  • paper
  • printer
  • black marker (or pencil, crayon,…)

Optional: coloring material to color your finished piece.

Step 1.

Start by drawing the head. Draw an upside down U shape, with the open ends rounded inwards. Or what you might call a horseshoe shape.

Step 2

Continue forming the head – starting at the bottom of the U shape, draw parentheses on each side. As you can see, this is really easy!

Step 3

This is the first pair of octopus tentacles. Continue from the bottom of the bracket shape and draw the first tentacle.

Place both tentacles facing up – this will create enough space to attract all the other tentacles.

Step 4

We’re going pretty fast! You’re almost done! Now let’s draw 4 more tentacles.

Draw two more pairs of tentacles

Step 5

Only two tentacles left! Draw these two tentacles in between the first pair and the remaining four tentacles you drew.

Also, draw eyes and a mouth. Or just draw the eyes if you want a more realistic look.

Step 6

All that remains to be painted are the finishing details – the suckers on the tentacles and maybe a spot or two on the head.

Last touch and you have drawn an octopus

Color it with your favorite color.
