We love making all kinds of puppets for kids because they are not only a fun craft activity but also a paper toy that kids can play with for a long time.
Insects are the perfect theme for a spring craft with kids, these little creatures can range from adorable to shy and scary (if you ask me, a spider phobic).
We’ve created a range of fun printable insect puppets for kids to make and play with, and we’re planning a new range of puppets – made in a variety of ways and all equally fun.
Printable Beetle Hand Puppets
This is the first buggy series we have done and it was definitely fun! We did 5 different species and one was more fun than the other.
You can watch the video tutorial to know how to do it.
We also have separate video tutorials for each of these puppets.
The busy bee
Kicking off our printable insect puppet collection is the ever-busy bee!
Since both my grandfathers were beekeepers, bees have always held a special place in my heart, so it only made sense to start my insect puppet collection with a great idea about bees.
You can take a sample to color or use as a stencil for this template. We have had a lot of feedback on these templates and kids love making and playing with them.

The beetles 🙂
Your kids can really get creative with their “regular beetle” puppets. There are so many textures they can use when decorating their shells.
You can even use a metallic marker to shine it up. So many possibilities.
Print out the template and start decorating the beetle.

Butterfly fluttering
Bees may hold a special place in my heart, but butterflies seem to be the most popular of all insects.
Of all the insect designs, this one definitely has the “wow” factor because not only do the legs shake, but the wings flap quite a bit when you move your hands up and down. This gives kids the perfect excuse to run around and move their hands.
It would be difficult to do just one activity, and based on the feedback we received, this is a really great activity to do in the classroom.

Count the dots on the ladybug
Ladybugs are also very popular with children.
Get some cardboard, scissors and glue to make these cute ladybugs.
Scary crawling spiders
I’m not going to lie, this isn’t my favorite but most kids still like spiders. As they should. Spiders are cute… Scary… But cute :).
