How to Make a Paper Snowman Craft

Making a snowman in the snow is the best way to do it, but if there’s no snow outside (or if it’s too cold) – our guide will show you how to make a snowman out of paper that’s just as fun. Almost as fun.

You can really play with colors when making this craft.

Snowmen are great Christmas crafts (you can even make them into Christmas cards) and winter crafts for kids to do – you can keep them festive or simple.

These crafts also look great displayed on a bulletin board, especially if you use a variety of background colors to make them.

How to make a paper snowman craft

What you need:

  • white paper
  • black paper
  • orange paper
  • brown paper
  • colored cardboard for background
  • drag
  • glue
  • black marker

Step by step instructions

Prepare your papers.

You will need a larger rectangle for the background – we used a rectangle the size of a piece of cardboard (we folded a piece of paper in half and cut it to get a rectangle).

Next, you will need 3 strips of white paper, 2 of equal size and 1 smaller (and thinner).

A strip of black paper (roughly the same size as the smaller white strip) to use as a weapon.

You will also need a half circle of black paper to make the snowman hat.

If you want to make the snowman hat more colorful, you will also need a thin strip of paper (in this tutorial we use blue).

Last but not least, a small triangle for the woman’s nose (you can also use orange or red pom poms instead) and two brown twig pieces for the hands.

No need for exact measurements here, handmade products will be great.

Start by making the snowman body.

Take three strips of white paper and glue the ends together, creating three rolls of paper.

Let the glue set, then apply glue to one of the larger rolls of paper…

…and glue it to the bottom of the lining paper.

Take the second large roll of paper, apply glue and stick it on top of the first roll.

Do the same with the smaller roll of white paper.

Next, take the black half circle and apply glue to one side.

Glue the half circle onto the snowman (the smallest of the 3 rolls).

Take a strip of black paper and roll it into a roll (tap the two ends together).

If you want to decorate, glue thin strips of paper (blue) around the black paper roll (at the bottom).

Apply glue to the roll of paper and stick it onto the card, just above the black half circle.

Add a little glue to the end of the branches (brown paper branches) and stick them onto the snowman.

Draw eyes, mouth and buttons with black marker (or other marker if you want colored buttons).

Add a little glue to the orange triangle and stick it onto the snowman.

Done! Now you know how to make a paper snowman and can show your kids.

Do a lot.
