Origami Christmas Tree

Follow our easy step-by-step instructions on how to make an origami Christmas tree, and you and your kids will be making these cute little pine trees in no time.

This is a great form of origami for beginners because the steps are quite easy and the end result is absolutely adorable. Make a bunch and use them as cute decorations. String them together to make a fun Christmas wreath or you can use them to make the sweetest handmade cards. Just fold one and stick it on a blank card. Easy as pie!

We added cute faces to ours; This small detail makes a difference, but this is an optional step.

Origami is a fun technique that both children and adults can master, as there are so many fun paper crafts you can make, from super simple ones to more difficult ones.

This Christmas tree craft is one of the easiest origami, so it can be used as an introduction to the technique.

Although origami is essentially folding and not cutting, we feel the addition of a star, even though it’s not technically origami, makes this craft even more special.

How to make an Origami Christmas tree

What you need:

  • drag
  • colored paper (blue)
  • Yellow or yellow paper for the star
  • marker pen (black, white and pink)

Step-by-step instructions

You can work with green origami paper or just use a regular square sheet of green paper.

Fold in half diagonally.

Open. Fold the edges toward the middle (diagonal fold).

Repeat with the other edge. The paper now looks like a kite.

Turn the paper face down.

Bring the edges (top side of the plant) toward the center.

You need to align both edges to the center.

Run your fingers across the folds to make them crisp.

Bring the bottom part up, folding them together to form a triangle.

Flip it over (one side is the “pure triangle” and the other side has the lid, the lid side should be facing you).

Make a fold about 1/3 of the way up the stem (seen from the bottom of the triangle). Fold down.

Fold the bottom end of the triangle up.

Make the folds sharp.

All has been done! You have folded the origami Christmas tree.

Make a cute Christmas Origami tree

Have your child use a black marker to draw eyes and mouth for the Christmas tree.

Have them use a white chalk marker to add a sparkly accent to the Christmas tree’s eyes.

Now, ask students to use a pink marker to draw their cheeks.

Cut a star shape from yellow or similar paper (you can use our handy printable star outlines) and glue it to the top of the tree.

Or you can have your child draw a star on the back and cut it out.

Glue the star to the top of the tree.

We think it looks great!

Children can make as many as they want using different colored paper.

Merry Christmas!
