Paper Plate Fish Craft – Rainbow Paper Circles

Today we have a gorgeous paper plate fish craft to share with you in every color of the rainbow. Well, almost every color.

This is a really fun craft because the paper circles look almost like real fish scales… In a cartoony way.

I’m a huge fan of rainbow fish and while we didn’t really plan on making this fish all that rainbow (it could definitely have glittery scales if we wanted, hint) I thought this fish would be perfect for a craft to go with that book.

We’ve shared a paper plate fish craft before (and some other fish craft ideas), but it wasn’t as colorful as this one… In fact, it looked pretty dull so we thought it was time to give this project a new look.

This particular craft requires a lot of paper punching, and young children (especially preschoolers and kindergarteners) often have a lot of fun with it.

You can adjust the difficulty of this craft to suit the skill level of the children who will be doing it – the younger the child, the larger the hole punch should be. Older children will have no problem working with smaller circles and the end result will be even more stunning.Paper Plate Fish Crafts for Kids

Cut a small triangle (a portion of the cake) out of the paper plate. This will be the mouth of the fish (and the excess will be used for the tail).

Glue the triangle to the paper plate.

You can also do this at the end. No particular order is needed.

Punch a circle out of a piece of white paper. Draw a circle inside that circle with a black marker. Look, you just made an eye.

Keep your eyes on the paper plate above your mouth.

Now take all your colored paper (the more colors the merrier) and start punching holes.

It would be even better if a sheet of glitter paper was included in your pile of paper for punching.

Punch, punch, punch. You will need quite a few paper circles.

Fold all the circles in half. Press down gently so they close completely.

Start gluing them in rows on the fish shaped paper plate.

We start from the head and work our way to the tail.
