Printable shark pop up cards

Let’s get back to this issue.

DIY shark pop up card

This shark pop-up card is really special because you can hide anything you like in its mouth and it won’t chew.

Our shark is not like a real shark – it is a completely harmless creature despite its terrible teeth appearing everywhere.

How to make a shark pop-up card with paper

What you need:

  • red paper
  • blue paper
  • pink paper
  • white cardstock (recommended 16o gsm)
  • drag
  • black liner + pencil (we only used a black liner in this tutorial, but it’s better to also use a pencil so you can erase the mark from the white cardstock later)
  • glue
  • 3 circular objects of different sizes (large, medium and small)
  • The ruler is circular
  • colored pencils or markers

Materials used

Be crafty!

Step-by-step instructions

A card

Take the largest circular object and draw a circle on red paper.

Step 1

Cut out the circle with scissors.

Step 2

Head

Take a medium-sized circular object and draw a circle on blue paper.

Step 3

Cut out the circle with scissors.

Step 4

Jaw

Draw a circle on white cardboard. Use the medium-sized circle object again.

We recommend using pencil instead of black eyeliner.

Step 5

Draw a triangle outside the circle as shown in the picture. Make it 1 cm wide.

Step 6

Continue drawing triangles around the circle. Those would be the teeth.

Step 7

Cut a circle with your teeth. If you use a pencil to draw a circle on a white cover, erase the pencil marks to get a clean white cover.

Step 8

The mouth

Take the smallest circular object and draw a circle on pink paper.

Step 9

Cut out the circle with scissors.

Step 10

Take the blue circle and fold it in half.

Step 11

Apply some glue and attach the blue circle (folded in half) to the red circle.

Step 12

Take white cardstock and divide it into two equal parts. (Don’t follow this step if you use pencil to draw).

Step 13

Apply some glue to the two halves and stick them inside the blue folded circle, one half on the upper jaw and the other half on the lower jaw. Make sure that marks from the black liner do not show.

If you use a pencil to draw, simply fold the white circles with your teeth – no cutting required, then stick them inside your mouth.

Step 14

The piece pops up

Take the pink circle and fold it in half.

Step 15

Cut two parallel lines 1.5cm long where the fold is to create the pop-up piece. Press the square upward as shown in the picture.

Step 16

Open the folded pink circle and push the pop-up piece from the back so it moves forward.

Step 17

Now cut a pink rectangle for the rest of the pink paper.

Step 18

Glue this rectangle to the back of the folded pink circle to cover the hole we made into the pop-up piece.

Make sure not to glue the middle of the rectangle with the hole so the pop-up piece doesn’t stick.

Step 19

Apply some glue to the back of the pink paper…

Step 19-1

… and stick it inside the mouth as shown in the picture.

Step 20

Fin

Take some blue paper and fold it in half.

Step 21

Open the folded paper and draw a fin on one side of it.

Step 22

Fold the blue paper and use scissors to cut out the fins.

Step 23

Add some glue to the back of the fin and stick it to the red circle (above the shark’s body – in the middle).

Step 24

Take another piece of blue paper, fold it in half and draw a fin.

Step 25

Use scissors to cut the fins, then cut along the fold to get two equal fins.

Step 26

Glue the fins to both sides of the shark’s body.

Step 27

Fish

Draw a random fish on white cardstock, color it with colored pencils or markers, then cut it out.

Step 28

Stick the fish piece to the pop-up inside the mouth.

Step 29

Eyes

Now, use a circular ruler and a black pencil to draw two shark eyes.

Step 30

Cut out the eyes with scissors.

Step 31

Apply some glue behind the eyes and attach them to the body.

Step 32

Your paper shark pop-up card is complete.

Now close your mouth, then open it so you can see the fish pop up from inside.

You can also write a message inside the card (make it say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” or anything else you want).
