When it comes to fall crafts for kids, it’s all about woodland animals, harvest season, and trees changing colors. When it comes to woodland animals, hedgehogs are one of the cutest, and this craft idea captures that perfectly. It’s super easy to make, and you could even add an apple or pear to the hedgehog to make it more interesting (although they don’t actually carry them around like that).
What you need:
We need a long and slightly wide strip of light brown construction paper. We made our strip about 2 inches / 5 cm wide.
To make a straight cut, you can fold the paper into a crease and then cut along the crease.
Apply glue to one end of the paper strip.
Glue the two ends together, forming a “teardrop” shape.
Once the glue is dry, you can trim the corners to make them nice and round for the hedgehog’s face (or leave them as is or even make them more pointy).
Next we need to make the spikes. Cut a thin strip from dark brown construction paper (you may need more than one strip).
Cut the paper strip into smaller pieces, cutting diagonally to form a long diamond shape.
Apply glue to the spikes (only half)…
…and glue them to the hedgehog’s body.
Add as many as you like.
Cut an oval or circle from black cardstock and glue it onto the hedgehog.
Add two more eyes and you’re done.
See? Easy and sweet?
