Swirly Paper Peacock Craft for Kids

Are your kids ready to create one of the most beautiful birds out there? With our swirly paper peacock craft for kids, you can make this paper bird craft a reality. Children will love seeing the swirling feathers made in the peacock’s signature colors.

You can adapt this craft to suit all ages – younger children can work with fewer strips of paper, and instead of curling them, they can make zig-zag folds. On the other hand, older kids can work with a larger number of strips if you want to give them more of a challenge.

The peacocks are very interestingly crafted, their colorful tail feathers make them really stand out. We’ve shared quite a few peacock crafts, like this toilet paper roll peacock or this fun peacock pop-up card. They are just so fun to make.

How to make swirly paper crafts for kids

What you need:

  • our printable template (optional) or a hand-drawn peacock
  • white printing paper
  • cardboard in any color of your choice
  • drag
  • glue

Step-by-step instructions

Prepare a sheet of construction paper of your choice (we chose pink paper) as the background. Print out the colorful template or have kids color in black and white to make this peacock craft.

Cut out the peacock’s body and legs.

Place the peacock print in the center of the background paper and draw lines around the body. This will mark the position of the body and make the next steps easier.

Apply glue to the inside of the body with traces.

We chose blue and green bands for our colorful bird but kids can use any color bands they like. Start gluing them onto the background paper.

We used 12 paper strips, you can use more or less.

Start with one of the outer paper strips and make a few loops.

Apply glue to the end of the swirl.

Press it down and hold it in place for a while to let the glue set.

Have your child repeat this process with all the other colored strips.

Now apply glue to the peacock’s body.

And its legs.

All done!
