Thinking of having an Easter egg hunt using plastic Easter eggs? Why not have the kids make their own baskets first.

Kids love Easter egg hunts, and with plastic eggs replacing regular eggs, Easter egg hunts have become even more popular. The treats, candy, or small toys (and erasers – a total hit this year) hidden inside those eggs are what bring the real fun.

We’ve been busy making simple paper crafts for Easter, you can find lots of bunnies, chicks and even lambs on our site so an Easter basket was bound to make an appearance at some point.

Since our simple paper bunny and chick were so popular we decided to make an Easter basket using the same technique and it turned out to be really fun and quite easy to make!Cute Paper Basket Crafts

It can hold plastic eggs and other not too heavy items without any problem.

While we really love this idea, we still hope to share a few more Easter basket craft ideas this year, so stay tuned.

Ready to do it yourself? Let’s get started!

What you need:

  • construction paper
  • scissors or paper cutter
  • glue (glue works great on paper – you can also use a glue gun – low heat if doing this craft with small children).

Now let’s see how to make a paper Easter basket

Or follow the step-by-step instructions below

Start by cutting strips of paper. All strips should be the same width.

The number of strips depends a little on the size of the basket you’re making and the width of the strips – the larger the basket, the more strips you’ll need, and the thinner the strips, the more strips you’ll need.

We are working with a letter sized (A4) sheet of blue cardstock and cutting along it.

These strips are about 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) wide.

If you use this size, you will need 8 strips of paper to make the basket, 2 strips of paper to make the rim, and 1 strip of paper to make the handle – a total of 9 strips.

Take the 8 strips of paper you will be using to make the basket and gently fold them in half.

There is no need to fold them, this is just to mark the middle of the paper strips, making the next steps easier.

Glue the paper strips together.

First, glue the two pieces together to form a cross (glue them in the middle).

Continue gluing the other strips “in the middle” to form a “snowflake” shape.

This will be the base of the cart.

Set the base aside and take another strip.

Fold in half and cut in half.

Take another strip and glue it together with the short strip (half the strip you cut earlier).

This will create a longer strip of paper (one and a half strips of paper) that we will use to make the rim of the basket.

Now make a circle with this long strip of paper.

Glue the two ends together.

Let the glue set.

Time to start making baskets

Bring out the DIY Easter paper basket base.

Add glue to the end of one of the strips and stick it onto the paper circle. Let the glue dry.

Now, take the other end of that paper strip, add glue and stick it to the circle.

You will need to glue all the basket base paper strips to the ring.

We recommend gluing the next pair of paper strips at right angles to the first strip (also forming a cross).

Continue until all the paper strips are glued to the ring.

It already looks like an Easter basket, all that’s left is to add a handle.

Take the remaining paper and glue it to the rim of the basket, forming a circle.

Let the glue dry completely.

You can even reinforce the basket with another basket ring – just cut another strip of paper, tape it together with the unused half of the strip. Tape it around the basket, on the outside.

Done! Your Easter paper basket craft is complete!

Why not decorate your Easter paper baskets?

Make paper flowers and glue them to the stand, or a colorful bow to glue to the handle or even add some cute paper chicks and bunnies.

Like other crafts, a little glitter glue will make this paper basket craft sparkle and beautiful!
