We’re sure you’ve done this project as a child, if not with leaves then certainly with coins. This is one of those projects that many generations love to do.
What you need:
You will need a sheet of paper, regular paper is best here, craft paper is also suitable if you have larger leaves with stiffer veins.
It’s time for some art. You can work with fresh or dried leaves (just don’t let them dry or they will break).
Place the leaf under the paper. You can tape it in place with washi tape or something similar (but it’s not necessary).
Have children choose their favorite colored pencils (we used orange) and color in the shape of the leaf, pressing in as much as possible so the leaf veins start to show on the paper.
See how its texture appears on the paper. This is almost magical.
Remove the leaf and repeat the process, with the same leaf or with a different leaf.
We continue to use the same colored pencils, but the kids can switch to different ones.
You can use one crayon for all the leaves, or you can use more colors, fall-themed, or any other choice your child likes.
Move the leaves around, change the colors, and apply colored pencils to the leaves to create more fun prints. They can also overlap!
You can also draw around the edges of the leaves to create a really striking shape.
Let the children add as many leaves as they like.
Look how the leaves stack up, we love the look of it.
You can ask the kids to add other shapes and paint the background… The sky is the limit.
Remember, there is no right or wrong – it’s all about fun!
Ta-da! Your unique leaf rubbing art is complete.
You have combined nature and art to create something truly unique and beautiful.
With thousands of crafts, activities, worksheets, coloring pages, and drawing guides to print, you’ll always have the resources you need at hand. Perfect for both parents and teachers!
